SCHAUMBURG – One of the many unique services the Schaumburg, IL-based Technology & Manufacturing Association offers its small and midsized manufacturing members is its well-known “gold standard” training for careers in mold making, tool & die making and CNC machining.
The Association is delighted to announce that TMA students pursuing training in mold making and tool & die making will soon be provided first-hand exposure to EDM Wire and EDM Sinker skills, thanks to a partnership providing two EDM machines with the Mitsubishi Corporation and MC Machinery.
“Offering TMA students another level of training in advanced machining will open even more career doors for them and provide our manufacturing members with persons skilled and ready to take on EDM projects,” said Jack Krikorian, TMA’s Senior Director of Training & Education.
Electrical discharge machining (EDM), also known as spark machining, spark eroding, die sinking, is a metal fabrication process whereby a desired shape is obtained by using electrical discharges (sparks).
Electrical discharge machining is a machining method primarily used for hard metals or those that would be very difficult to machine with traditional techniques.
“TMA has a reputation for providing excellent training for skills used in manufacturing, and thanks to our partnership with Mitsubishi and MC Machinery, we will now be able to add EDM machine skills to the list of advanced training now in demand by our TMA members and others in the industry,” Krikorian said.
“We are grateful industry leaders caught the vision and are eager to assist us in getting started in this growing, in-demand field.”
TMA has been involved in training the next generation of manufacturers as the demand has increased over the past few years as the need to “re-shore” manufacturing to America has become more and more evident.
Not only does TMA offer hands-on training in tool & die making, mold-making and CNC machining, they offer training for managerial positions in conjunction with Judson University.
“Our goal at TMA is to keep on the industry’s edge to attract the next generation into fields that are appealing and challenging, and that are needed to make medical, technological, aerospace, and other industrial products in a way that keeps America in the lead globally,” said TMA President Patrick Osborne.
“We deeply appreciate Mitsubishi and MC Machinery’s partnership for TMA students and members,” Osborne said. “This is just another step in TMA’s training advancement towards an even more exciting future.”
