Manufacturing sector report shows slight increase in southeastern Wisconsin

Good news for Wisconsin manufacturers …

Despite still hovering in negative territory, southeastern Wisconsin’s manufacturing sector is seeing some improvements at the end of 2019 and beginning of 2020, according to the Marquette-ISM Report on Manufacturing.

The report’s December index registered at 45.10, an improvement from 42.12 in November. An index number above 50 indicates expansion while under 50 indicates a decline.

The report surveyed a variety of categories including new orders, production, employment, exports and imports. Though many categories saw improvements, the majority remained below the 50 index marker. Backlog of orders increased 17.4% from an index of 19.23 in November 2019 to 36.67 in December. Imports increased 13.8% to an index of 45 while exports declined 5.9% from 40.91 in November to 35 in December.
