Beware of fraudulent unemployment claims

From TMA’s latest “Special Update:”

There has been a drastic increase in the number of fraudulent unemployment claims affecting Illinois employers, including some TMA members. According Sedgwick CMS, there is little employees can do to protect themselves against the criminals filing the imposter claims, using personal information they obtain via the dark web. The best thing you can do to help impacted employees is respond right away upon receipt of an unemployment claim for someone that is still employed. Alert the IDES to shut down the claim before any benefits are paid out. If you have questions or need help, contact Lauren Mann (773-696-1056) or Bruce Kijewski (312-315-2929) of Sedgwick, and be sure to mention you’re a TMA member.
