WASHINGTON DC – Last week, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a resolution criticizing the horrors of socialism.
The text says,
Whereas socialist ideology necessitates a concentration of power that has, time and time again, collapsed into communist regimes, totalitarian rule, and brutal dictatorships;
Whereas socialism has repeatedly led to famine and mass murders, and the killing of over 100,000,000 people worldwide;
Whereas many of the greatest crimes in history were committed by socialist ideologues, including Vladimir Lenin, Joseph Stalin, Mao Zedong, Fidel Castro, Pol Pot, Kim Jong Il, Kim Jong Un, Daniel Ortega, Hugo Chavez, and Nicolás Maduro …
The roll call on was 285–98 with two members voting “present.” There were 86 Democrats who joined all Republicans to vote in favor of the resolution, which was introduced by Rep. Maria Elvira Salazar (R-Fla.), a daughter of Cuban immigrants who fled the communist regime of Fidel Castro.
Of Illinois’ 17 Congress members, Roll Call 305 records eight Democrat Reps. Sean Casten, Danny Davis, Chuy Garcia, Jonathan Jackson, Robin Kelly, Delia Ramirez, Jan Schakowsky, and Lauren Underwood who voted “no” on the resolution.
H.Con. Res.58 concludes with “…Congress denounces socialism in all its forms, and opposes the implementation of socialist policies in the United States.”
The eight Illinois Democrats disagreed with that statement, and voted “No” on the resolution.
Some quotes about socialism and capitalism concerning manufacturing:
In support of socialism, “The production of too many useful things results in too many useless people.” – Karl Marx wrote in The Economic and Philosophic Manuscripts of 1844, where Marx critiques capitalism’s effects on labor and human value.
Another perspective on the issue is “The inherent vice of capitalism is the unequal sharing of blessings. The inherent virtue of Socialism is the equal sharing of miseries,” a quote from Winston Churchill, House of Commons, 22 October 1945, shortly after losing his first term as Britain’s prime minister.
