Building coalitions of groups with similar goals is a crucial part of making a difference in public policy.
The Technology & Manufacturing Association is actively working with other like-minded associations to strengthen the impact of small and midsize manufacturers in Illinois on our local, state and federal levels of government.
Earlier this week, TMA’s state lobbyist David Curtin participated in a Springfield panel discussion hosted by the group Citizens Against Lawsuit Abuse to encourage more substantial coalition efforts in the State Capitol.
After the event, Curtin shared why small and midsize manufacturers need to work together and with other small and midsize businesses from other industries to affect state policy.
“TMA is a great organization, where the members constitute strength. When our organization teams up with another organization, then in two other organizations, for example, on an issue, it makes it much more powerful when people are making decisions on whether they pass some piece of legislation or not.
“It’s not like just a good thing to do, it’s something we have to do here in Illinois to promote our business clients’ interests, Curtin said.
Others joining “Springfield Small Business Forum” included Attorney Patrick Sheehan III, who gave practical strategies to avoid costly lawsuits, Noah Finley, State Director of National Federation of Independent Businesses, Alicia Martin of the Association of Builders and Contractors and Phil Melin of CALA.
TMA is actively working with these groups to promote business policies that encourage growth and prosperity in Illinois.
